About

One pair of hands, one small room.

Sjögren Keramik has been the same studio on Södermalm for more than thirty years. It has never grown beyond what one potter can throw in a week, and that is on purpose.

1991

Elin Sjögren took a lease on a basement room off a courtyard on Södermalm and set up a wheel and a second-hand kiln. The first pieces were sold from a table at a Saturday market; some of the same cup shapes are still made today.

The way of working

The studio has stayed deliberately small. There is no production line and no wholesale — everything is thrown, trimmed, glazed and fired by Elin, and sold directly from the studio. Keeping it to one person is what lets each piece be a little different.

Today

The studio opens its doors on Saturdays and takes visitors by appointment during the week. A handful of Stockholm cafés use the everyday range; otherwise the pots go home with the people who come to the studio.
